VOlunteer at THe
AMI FARM AT AUGUSTA HEALTH

What will I do as a volunteer?

Each new volunteer will enjoy a tour of the farm and an overview of our unique farm-to-hospital initiative. Typical volunteer tasks are weeding, mulching with straw, transplanting seedlings, starting seeds, and harvesting produce. When needed, specialized volunteer opportunities will be listed on the sign-up form.

What health and safety protocols are in place?

We ask all volunteers to sign a Volunteer Release and Covid Waiver (PDF) upon arrival at the farm.

Volunteer shifts are limited to 8 volunteers in order to maintain a safe social distance.

For your protection and the protection of those around you, we ask you to comply with the following protocols:

  • Stay home if you have a fever, cough, or other symptoms or if you have been in close contact with someone with these symptoms.

  • Wash your hands often. A sanitation station is available onsite for volunteers.

  • Maintain a 6-foot distance from others.

  • Masks are optional.

Proper use of tools will be reviewed during each volunteer shift to prioritize safety.

Will I sign a Volunteer Waiver and Release?

Yes! All volunteers will need to sign this Volunteer Waiver and a Covid-19 Agreement (PDF) at the beginning of their volunteer shift.

Where is the farm located?

Our farm is located on the Augusta Health campus in Fishersville, VA. The address is 315 Mule Academy Road. Visitors can park in the gravel lot at the end of the driveway.

What should I wear?

Check the weather beforehand and dress accordingly. We suggest that volunteers wear lightweight, breathable clothes that can get dirty. Be sure to wear a hat, sun protection, and bring a water bottle. Closed-toed shoes are required.

What are the conditions like on the farm?

Our farm does have uneven terrain. We use materials such as straw and soil amendments that may contain allergens. If you require any specific accommodations, please email at hannah@amifellows.org

Can I bring a group to volunteer?

Yes! If you are a group organizer, please email hannah@amifellows.org  to schedule a day and time.

Are children able to volunteer?

Children are welcome! Volunteers under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
